In my opinion, "Watchmen" is one of Alan Moore's best works. I rank it a tad bit higher than "From Hell".From Hell, the graphic novel is such an intricate and complex piece of work, brilliant and suspenseful, weird and poignant. I can think of a part in it where the supposedly mad doctor explains the detailed history behind the city of London and the layers of blood, sweat and tears that have gone into the town that metamorphosized into the dark , foggy megapolis London of the 20th century. The entire scene is so well done and the amount of knowledge and research that might have gone into gathering all the information and then constructing it,rather weaving it into the tapestry that is the graphic novel, is a work of pure genius.

The astute Alan Moore.

From Hell:The graphic novel.
From Hell:The movie , was a decent effort. However,It was obviously Hollywoodized (nee sterilized, sensationalized(?) starring an opium addict-inspector Depp) for the silver screen ,but if anyone would be really interested in experiencing the thrill ride that is From Hell, I would recommend you to buy the graphic novel.
Nevertheless, From Hell: The Movie is leagues and leagues (and leagues) better than the movie version of the farce that was "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".
No wonder Alan Moore decided that he had got nothing to do with any movie adaptation of any of his works, however "V for Vendetta" was a much more serious effort by the Wachowski brothers (Producing it) and did a good job of translating a dystopian, tragic and mesmerising book into a gripping ,gritty, gloomy movie.
So when I did read ,about a year ago ,that a movie version of "The Watchmen" was finally moved from Development Hell to production and helmed by 300's Uber cool , Zack Snyder, I was a bit unnerved. 300 is a great comic and was made into a good movie.
However, Watchmen is another one of Alan Moore's complicated piece of work , the most difficult to adapt to the screen. What I can say is that every time that I have read The Watchmen, I got to experience something different from what I had when I had read it previously. There is so much going on in the comic with respect to the plot,sub-plots,it being so very philosophical in its deconstruction of the superhero, symbolism usage and the brilliant artwork by Dave Gibbons, it's just simply a Tour de Force .
However, some of my fears have been put to rest. The principal photography of the movie has been completed and Snyder's blog suggests that everyone at WB has taken The Watchmen very , very seriously. I am impressed. In fact I am so overjoyed that I might have wet my pants.
No,seriously.
Cast of the Watchmen movie.
